Prior to 2025 the business was registered as Gary G Buchta CPA. We are a general practice offering income tax, bookkeeping and payroll services.
Our Focus:
Farmers & Agri-Businesses: Farmers make up the largest group of our business clients. We maintain knowledge of the multiple unique income tax rules in this area and work with our clients to optimize their tax planning decisions over the long term.
Other Small Businesses: We service a variety of small businesses with income tax, bookkeeping and payroll support. Whether in start-up, operational mode, or preparing to exit, we assist clients with understanding the tax impact and compliance requirements for each phase.
Individuals: We provide comprehensive tax planning and preparation services. We work with many clients and their financial advisiors to evaluate the tax impact of their financial decisions.
Non-Profits: We provide tax compliance services to multiple non-profit organizations.
Estate Planning: We work with clients’ attorneys and financial advisors to ensure clients understand the tax considerations of estate planning.
We utilize QuickBooks on-line for our bookkeeping services, and SurePayroll for payroll services. This allows us customize our service level based on our clients budget and support level needs.
Our Team
Gary Buchta CPA
Gary acquired the assets of an existing practice in mid-2020. Prior to acquiring his own firm, Gary held accounting leadership positions at a NYSE-listed oil & gas company, including Controller and Director of Financial Reporting and Tax. Gary holds a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Economics and an MBA from the University of Nebraska.
Gary and his wife, Susan relocated from Houston, Texas to Southern Minnesota to be close to grandchildren. After a long corporate career, Gary had a strong desire to use his skills to assist small businesses as well as individuals with their tax and financial planning needs. In additional to spending time with family, Gary enjoys running, cycling on the Sakata trail, and snow skiing.
Angela Mills
Angela heads up our Bookkeeping and Payroll services, as well as being one of our lead tax return preparers. She worked for the prior owner for several years before Gary acquired the business in 2020. Angela graduated from South Central College in 2004 with an AAS Degree in Accounting and has been working at this business ever since. Angela maintains the annual training and testing requirements for the IRS’ Annual Filing Season Program Participant program.
When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two sons camping, traveling and enjoying the outdoors.
Jason Buchta EA
Jason is the firm’s lead for technical tax research and IRS rules compliance as well as one of our tax preparers. He joined the firm in 2023 and earned his Enrolled Agent designation with the IRS in November of 2024. Prior to joining the firm, Jason worked as a commercial insurance agent. His insurance experience included time in South Dakota working with several farm clients. Prior to working in insurance, he was the Season Ticket and Group Sales Manager for the Albuquerque Isotopes. He holds both a BS and MS degree from Texas Tech University.
Outside of tax season, Jason enjoys cycling and snow skiing as well as spending time with his nieces and nephews. He is also a football official for the MSHSL and has worked two state championship games in New Mexico before relocating to Minnesota. He is the rules guy on his crew, which translates over to the tax world well.
Heidi Haugen
Heidi is our administrative lead, and our point person for community relations. She is also a tax preparer and assists with our payroll and bookkeeping services. Before joining our firm, Heidi retired from her previous job as an elementary school teacher in Kenyon. As a life-long resident and former teacher, she knows the Kenyon community very well. After joining the firm Heidi completed several tax and bookkeeping training courses. She maintains the annual training and testing requirements for the IRS’ Annual Filing Season Program Participant program.
Heidi is very involved in her church and multiple community organizations. She enjoys much of her free time with her eight grandkids, loves to travel, scrapbook and spend time in the garden.
